David Haye could yet face Jean Marc Mormeck, that’s according to the WBC president Jose Sulaiman, who addressed attendees at the WBC ratings meeting in Dubrovnik, Croatia on Wednesday.
Sulaiman confirmed that the winner of Haye and Fragomeni would indeed become mandatory challenger to the WBC cruiserweight champion. However, with the bout between Jean Marc Mormeck, and current champion O’Neil Bell still not set, Sulaiman raised concerns over timescales, and also Bell’s involvement in the Superfighter tournament, due to take place on December 2nd.
Having won purse bids, Don King is yet to agree a date for the bout between Bell and Mormeck. Jose Sulaiman at first announced that should the bout not be contested before the end of February, Bell would be stripped of the title. Following some deliberation, Jose Sulaiman and the committee agreed that an interim title would be contested should the bout not take place before the end of February, even if this is a direct result of an injury gained from the Superfighter tournament. Sulaiman confirmed that, if required, the interim title would be contested between the winner of Haye and Fragomeni and Jean Marc Mormeck, possibly in March of 2007.
