Johanneson Impresses, Magee & Catley Win Comebacks!!!

By ukboxingpress.co.uk

Carl Johanneson (25-2) put in an impressive performance to successfully defend his British Super Featherweight Title against Bradford’s Femi Fehintola (14-1). Referee Howard Foster stopped the contest in the 6th Round after a barrage of punches gave him no choice but to save Fehintola from further punishment.

Throughout the entertaining contest Johannesson looked extremely strong, although to be fair to Fehintola he won the first 2 rounds of the fight attempting to work off his jab to keep the big punching Johanneson at bay. Johanneson relentlessly marched forward flooring Fehintola with some stinging body shots in the 3rd, 5th and then in the 6th rounds.

Big things will now be expected of Johanneson who will no doubt look to a European Title shot in 2007 and may even look as far as a World Title tilt. For Fehintola, the fight was not a complete disaster. Clearly he was not strong enough on this occasion, however, he must have learnt a great deal from the fight and will no doubt gain another shot at a British Title further down the line.

On the undercard Northern Irelands Brian Magee faced a determined challenge from Brendan Ingle fighter Paul David. David was awkward throughout the contest and it took time for Magee to shake off any doubts he may have had coming into the contest bearing in mind he lost his previous fight against British Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch. Magee eventually won the contest on points over 6 rounds but certainly for the first 3 rounds it looked to be worrying times for Magee. It is understood Magee will now campaign at Light Heavyweight.

Other results from the Maloney/Fight Academy Promotion were as follows:

Carl Johannson beat Femi Fehintola … RSF 6

News just reaching ukboxingpress.co.uk informs us that Bristol’s Glen Catley (28-7) who was the former WBC Super Middleweight Champion of the World won his comeback contest against tough journeyman Hussain Osman (14-15). The Referee stopped the contest in the 3rd round.
